2. Venice Biennale, the International Exhibition: Cecilia Alemani's 'The Milk of Dreams’, April 23rd – November 2022 (6 Months)

Venice Biennale is easily one of the most famous international art exhibitions. The historical art exhibition's annual marathon and old age establish it as a cultural icon to artists, curators, enthusiasts, and collectors globally.

Venice Biennale's 59th international art exhibition was themed The Milk of Dreams after Leonora Carrington's writings.

Cecilia Alemani—Chief Curator and Director of High Line Art, New York—curated the event.

The Milk of Dreams portrays the aftermath of the world's recent disasters: the pandemic, the War in Ukraine, and devastating effects of climate change.

Alemeni experiencing the first one-year postponement of the Venice Biennale since the 1960s—due to Covid-19 - quite possibly inspired the historical art exhibition's 2022 theme.

Alemani also angled for a unique inclusion of artists. Of the 200 artists from 58 nations' artworks that were accepted, the exhibition spotlighted submissions of some of the normally considered minority groups ranging from women—especially black women—and non-binary, disabled, and trans artists.

The displayed—embroidery, painting, video, and digital—arts complemented The Milk of Dreams' theme with depictions of questions like How is the definition of humanity changing? What would the world look like without humanity? What are our responsibilities to each other and to the Earth?

Locations:

The Milk of Dreams' major exhibitions was held at the Arsenale and the Central Pavilion in the Giardini, Venice.

However, the curator also allowed some Biennale affiliates to host a series of supporting exhibitions around Venice featuring works portraying three main Biennale sub-themes; idea of metamorphosis; individuals and technology relationship; and our relationship with our surroundings and the planet—with 19th 20th and 21st Century historical contexts.

Well deservedly, Simone Leigh's Brick House sculpture and Sonia Boyce's Feeling Her Way video snagged the top crown.

3. "Cezanne" at the Art Institute Chicago, May 15th - September 5th 2022

One hundred sixteen years after his death, the art world continues to regard Paul Cezanne as the father of Still Life and modern art.

Paul Cezanne focused on artistic direction and depth over style. At first glance, his paintings of may appear ordinary and unimpressive - however, diving deeper, one would appreciate the more profound meanings he stroked into his seemingly-ordinary paintings.

Even Pablo Picasso called him our one and only master.

Gloria Groom and three other experts from the Art Institute of Chicago and other art galleries curated this historical art exhibition.

The Art Institute of Chicago also published numerous contributions from international artists they invited to write about each artwork in the exhibition.

Likewise, Yale University Press distributed the four curators' thematic essay publications.
