Joan Miró resided in Barcelona from 1947, and is considered to be one of the twentieth century's most significant painters due to his distinctive artistic style. You can find his works in many important museums and art galleries across the world.

Luis Domenech i Montaner (1850 - 1923) was a prominent artist in Barcelona due to his contributions to architecture. He was originally trained as a painter, and his first exhibition was one that he had organised himself. Some of his most well-known work is the The Hospital de Sant Pau and Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona.

Lluïsa Vidal (1876 -1918) was a Catalan painter whose work consisted of various techniques and styles she had studied throughout her life. In 1901, she was one of the few women of her day to travel to Paris to study painting. She was a talented artist, but Vidal struggled to make her mark in an era when it was unimaginable for women to hold professional positions. She returned to Barcelona in 1902, joined the feminist movement, and committed herself to portraiture, almost exclusively painting women.

It has become the most visited landmark in the whole country.

Construction began in 1882, and a year later Antonio Gaudi was commissioned to it. He re-designed it completely and drafted a remarkable and original basilica that was to have 18 towers.

Unfortunately, Gaudi passed away in 1926 after only completing one of the towers. However, the construction of the basilica continues to this day by renowned architects, donations and its many visits.

1. Musée du Louvre: Built in the late 12th to 13th century, the Louvre is one of the most iconic sites in Paris, and the most visited museum in the world. It is home to some of the best-known pieces of art including Leonardo da Vinci's 'Mona Lisa', Eugène Delacroix's ‘Liberty Leading the People' and Théodore Géricault's 'The Raft of the Medusa'.

2. Musée d'Orsay: Found on the left bank of Le Seine, Musée d'Orsay was originally a railroad station before becoming the well-known museum it is today. Visit Musée d'Orsay to see its impressive collection of paintings and sculptures such as Vincent Van Gogh's Self-Portrait and Edouard Manet's Lunch on the Grass.

3. Musée de l'Orangerie: This art gallery is the permanent home of Claude Monet's 'Water Lilies', which are eight significantly large murals found in two oval rooms at the Musée de l'Orangerie. Alongside Monet, the gallery contains impressionist and post-impressionist paintings from artists such as Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

Although Catalan Modernism’s renowned architect Antoni Gaudi (1852 - 1926) was born and raised in Reus, he migrated to Barcelona in his teens. He worked in multiple fields such as interior design, furniture design, and city planning in his long career. His masterpiece is the Sagrada Família church in Barcelona. Gaudi is the most prominent and famous of all Barcelona artists.

Mosaic art is considered to be one of the most ancient forms of decorative art, and can be seen in many locations in Barcelona. On the rooftops of buildings, in parks and on the street, you're likely to spot mosaic designs spread throughout the city.

One of the most famous areas for mosaic art is Park Güell. The architecture of Park Güell was designed by Antoni Gaudí, and is home to some of the most famous and unique mosaic art in the city. It has become one of the most popular spots for photographs as at the top is a terraced area where you get a wonderful panoramic view of the park and of Barcelona City which is perfectly framed by the mosaic tiles.

Parisian architecture known as 'Haussmann Architecture' was named after the designer Baron Georges Eugène Haussmann who was appointed the role after the city could no longer support the growing population.

From 1853 to 1870 Haussmann demolished the medieval buildings to pave way for new boulevards and unify the different neighbourhoods. Although he was dismissed in 1870 by Napoleon III after mounting opposition, work on his projects continued until 1927, and the distinctive Parisian style today is largely the result of Haussmann's work.
